is someone saved if don't remember a date

Is a person saved if he/she doesn’t know the exact date it occurred?

a. What is required for salvation?

Is it a prayer? No. Is it walking an aisle? No. Is it baptism? No. It is repentance and faith in the finished work of Jesus. Jesus won our salvation by His death and resurrection, by His shed blood. We repent and believe and are saved by God, not by our prayer or date.

Eph. 2 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Acts 20:21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rom. 5 1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

b. Some who say the right words are not actually saved.

Mt. 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

c. Faith is proved genuine by its fruit, and this takes time.

Jas. 2 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

d. More important than claiming a date is “knowing that you know”, based on the Word and Christ’s work.

1 Jn. 5 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.  13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

e. Conversion can be instant or gradual.
